(Ending up in a world not his own had never been on the cards, a fanciful and hard to believe feat that would not normally cross someone's mind let alone actually happen. It happened and even as Luffy looks at the way home he knows that seeing the myriad of different things in the world, and hearing what others had to say about their own, paled in comparison to the things he's learned about himself and others. Specifically Nami. Definitely Nami.
Not that there is too much time to dwell on it when faced with the beacon. There had been a discussion about forgetting, remembering and all the the in between, but ultimately the distrust of the offer and Luffy's insistence that they'll remember what's important is enough to tilt the decision in favour of forgetting. If that even happened; a lot of things in this world had been dubious at best, downright fallacy at its worst. They would remember because it meant everything, and in Luffy's mind nothing could take that away from them and even as they step through back to their own world he holds Nami's hand, confident in the decision they've made. There is nothing to mourn because in Luffy's mind there is nothing to worry about.
But they don't remember and true to the last world's word, their memory is gone. A blink of the eye and they're back on the Going Merry, unknowingly caught in a lull between the Conomi Islands and Loguetown, unaware of a whole host of emotions and memories that have vanished. The rest of the day even passes without much drama, the air filled with the usual stories of Captain Usopp, the scent of the dishes Sanji cooks, the low, harsh snores of Zoro as the swordsman finds the opportunity. Even Luffy seems to be on good behaviour, sitting on the sheep figurehead as he watches the waves rock on by. Everyone is so distracted with their own little things that they don't notice how Luffy occasionally pulls a note from his pocket, studying it with a small frown of confusion before folding it up and returning it.
Love? Don't believe me if I say otherwise. From Nami? It should be incredulous, a joke of some magnitude being played by one of the others perhaps and yet Luffy doesn't even question it for reasons even he's not sure of. Such a thing had to be true; the writing was Nami's own, and Nami didn't seem the kind to play on emotions in such a way. But then what truth did that leave remaining?
It's still enough to occupy Luffy's mind through the rest of the day, though he has enough in him to still wrestle with Usopp over the last Bakewell tart that Sanji conjures up after dinner, even managing to look a little guilty at the usual scolding that follows from the blond chef before he admits defeat when Usopp snags the cake during that moment. Everything is just how it should be and there's no reason to even feel it would be any other way.
It doesn't stop Luffy from leaving the quarters on the evening, intent on getting some fresh air. Watching the waves at night always helped when something had to be thought through and Luffy turns the corner, blinking and smiling when he spots a familiar silhouette. Despite the oddity of the note there's not a single reason to be weird about it and the pirate captain is already heading over, not noticing Nami has something in her own hand.)
